The Citti Vrittis - Exploring Ancient Yoga Thoughts on the Root Causes of an Afflicted Mind

One of the most important books on Yoga Psychology is the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.
Patanjali is believed to be an avatar of Lord Vishnu who came to earth to share both Sanskrit
and the teaching of yoga with humanity in an effort to uplift them and offer guidance to their
spiritual journey. These teachings are still highly relevant today and in this class we will look at
the “Vrittis” which are the fluctuations and agitations of the mind. We all have them and they
can lead to an unstable mind and a distorted perception of reality. We will cover the five vrittis
that are said to be painful and the five vrittis that are said to be seemingly non painful. There will
be discussion of the vrittis and how they affect our daily lives and we will also chant them together in the call and response style known as Kirtan.

*mostly discussion with some chanting*
